SYNAGOGUES OF SALONIKA
Monastirlis synagogue - the main synagogue of Salonika

MONASTIRLIS SYNAGOGUE 
Historical Data:  This is the main synagogue of Thessaloniki.  It is the only one remaining of the 40 synagogues that existed before World War II.  It was built in 1925 an dwas inaugurated in 1927.  It was saved during the war after it was requistioned by the Red Cross.  
Area/Capacity:   300 sq. m. & 300 sq. m. (the women's gallery)/ 600 persons  
Actual Condition:  Excellent state of preservation, maintained by the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki.  
Necessary Restoration Works:  None  
Estimated Cost: None 
Interior of Yad Lezikaron synagogue of Salonika
YAD LEZIKARON SYNAGOGUE 
Historical Data:  This synagogue was reconstructed in 1984 in a modern buidling and it includes remains from 
previously destroyed synagogues.  It was built on the site of the former Burla Synagogue, originally built in 1921.  
Area/Capacity:   208 sq. m./ 200 persons  
Actual Condition:  The synagogue is maintained in very good condition by the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki.  
Necessary Restoration Works:  None  
Estimated Cost:   None  
The Avraam Salem synagogue 
in the Saoul Modiano Retirement Home
AVRAAM SALEM SYNAGOGUE 
Historical Data:  It was built in 1981 and is located inside the Saoul Modiano Jewish Retirement Home for the needs of the residents.  
Area/Capacity:   60 sq. m./ 90 persons  
Actual Condition:  Maintained by the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki and the administration of the retirement 
home, it is in very good condition.  
Necessary Restoration Works:  None  
Estimated Cost: None

CEMETERY OF SALONIKA
The Holocaust Memorial 
in the Cemetery of Salonika
Historical Data:  This is hte second Jewish Cemetery of Thessaloniki.  Its use began after the war since the old one, which was located under the present-day precincts of the University of Thessaloniki, was totally destroyed by the Nazis.  In the new cemetery, some tombstones of the old one are maintained.  
Area/Capacity:   17,000 sq. m.  
Actual Condition:  The cemetery is protected by a surrounding wall and it is guarded.  
Necessary Restoration Works:  No restoration works of importance are needed.  
Estimated Cost: None
